Taj 5k Day Two
I ended up somewhere in the 30s in the Taj tournament with 18 getting paid. Here are some key hands I played on day two:
- 200/400/75, I open for 1400 on the button with Jd9d, both blinds call. Flop Ah5d2d, they check to me, I bet 2000, SB makes it 6000, BB jams for 20k+, we both fold. I wish I had checked behind on the flop here.
- 300/600/100, I open in the cutoff with QTo, both blinds call. Flop KQx rainbow, SB checks, BB bets 2000, I make it 6000, SB folds, BB jams and has me covered, I have 9500 behind. I tank. For the second time in a week, a dealer calls the clock on me. Wtf. Then a player calls the clock on me. Then I fold. I'm not really sure what line I like better here. I think folding the flop is bad. The best line may be just to call and take a turn card. Thoughts?
- Same blinds, I have 5100 and post the SB. UTG limps, UTG+1 makes it 2300, button calls, I jam for 2800 more with AKo, blinds fold, limper folds, UTG+1 calls, button folds(?!), UTG+1 shrugs and says something like, "I'm glad there's so much dead money in there," and turns over A8s. Flop misses us, turn an 8 that gives me a flush draw, river blank and IGHN.
It's pretty sick, I start the day with 19k, don't win a hand for almost three hours, and if I can run AK through A8s, I'm back to 15k. Oh well. Matt ended up bubbling so the trip was pretty disappointing for us.
Probably not going to play much between now and Bahamas on Jan. 4. Thinking about going back to playing some hold 'em on Party given my struggles online lately. What's the story with rakeback there anyway?

First hand - I agree and have also made that same particular "error of aggression" as I've coined it and had to fold from perfect position. I've learned not to do that and accept the free card that I need, especially when my stack isn't large enough to take the heat.
Second hand - Did you raise or just limp with the QTo pre-flop? Depending on your stack size and perceived table image, I'm torn between a pre-flop raise to try to steal the blinds and antes or just mucking and waiting for a better spot and/or hand. I don't mind folding the flop here as the initial $2K is slightly more than 10% of your remaining stack. I think that's too high a price to just call. What did you know about your opponent in the BB? I think that's the key. Could you have jammed him first and made him fold or was his image solid enough to suggest that he had the goods?
Final hand - Lousy beat, but that's poker.
Happy Holidays!
I like the Q10 flopraise, they have air there often enough imo .. then when he rejams and ur short is there a chance he has J10 and decided you are short enough and he already has 6k in there ?? or did he flop the burger ??
most people arent getting rake on party ...
a dealer called the clock on you?? Twice?? That is trule un Fn believable....
The Party affiliates have to be very quiet about rakeback, but you can get it.
I'd say there is roughly a 100% chance that Chris open-raised with QTo in LP.
Yes, I raised with the QT.
